– The professional division is open to KNPA members who live and or work in the state of Kentucky, who accept payment for photography services by way of salary or on a contractual basis, and who are not currently enrolled in high school or college.

Student Division

– The student division is open to KNPA members who are currently enrolled in high school and colleges or universities at the time of the judging in the state of Kentucky. If you graduated in December you may still enter the student division. If you are on an internship and have credits left to graduate you may enter the student division.

– Entries –

  • Images do not have to be shot in Kentucky.

  • Images do not have to be published to be considered for competition.

  • All images must have been created between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016.

The Picture Story categories are exceptions to this rule. Images made in a previous year that contribute to a picture story that have not been entered in a prior years contest can be submitted.

Contestants may enter single image categories without entering the POY competition. We subscribe to the NPPA code of ethics with respect to manipulation of photos. As a result, the judging panel or members of the board may disqualify any images that do not meet the ethical standards.

Also, images from multiple image categories may be entered in single image categories.

Categories having multiple images, i.e, Picture Package, News Picture Story, etc., count as one entry. Team Entries do not count against 15 max number of entries.

Entries for Photographer of the Year do not count towards the 15 entry quota. Submissions for the Student and Professional POY should not exceed 10. Each portfolio MUST include an entry from one multiple picture category (News Picture StoryFeature Picture StorySports Picture Story, Multimedia) and from one news category (Spot NewsGeneral NewsNews Picture Story.)

Likewise the Sports POY entries should not exceed 10. Sports Photographer of the Year entries can be a combination of any single or multiple image category. Only Professionals may enter the Sports Photographer of the Year category.
